The Power of Thought

“Imagination is a neurological reality that can impact our brains and bodies in ways that matter for our wellbeing.”

Tor Wager (director of the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory at CU Boulder)

As promised, I want to explain the power of affirmations and manifestations.

But first – I want you to think of a lemon…a nice juicy lemon. The lemon is sitting on the counter, ready to be cut. As you slice it, the citrusy juices begin to drip. You go to take a bite and instantly are reminded of that sour lemony citrus taste.

Did your mouth begin to salivate (whether you like lemons or not)? Most likely, the answer is yes. The lemon imagery is an example of how our body processes what we imagine. Your body begins to believe what your mind is telling it.

So if you are constantly imagining the worst-case scenario or telling yourself “you are not good enough” – you are going to believe it, whether or not there is proof to the matter or not.

The idea behind saying daily affirmations (or coming up with things you want to manifest) is the power of imagery and its effects on our body and mind. If you imagine you can accomplish anything – and work on REALLY believing it – you will stop at nothing to accomplish that. The key to this is consistency and patience. Floating thoughts are still going to come. See them. Release them. Then keep with the consistent nature of saying these kind things to yourself in the mirror…and imagine in detail (with all your senses) how it feels to own that. Keep note on how this begins to feel over time.
